On Tuesday, May 13th, the Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition (OBXDFC), in partnership with Eastern AHEC—part of the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers—hosted a full-day dementia care conference at the scenic Jennette’s Pier. This enriching event welcomed 80 healthcare providers, caregivers, and local vendors into a supportive space dedicated to understanding the many facets of memory loss.
Expert presenters from East Carolina University shared invaluable insights on caring for aging loved ones with dementia, covering topics such as nutrition, end-of-life planning, and Teepa Snow’s practical, compassionate techniques for dementia care. Their expertise brought meaningful tools and hope to our community.
Despite the rainy, blustery weather, attendees left energized and informed, enjoying breakfast pastries and coffee from OBX Wake & Take and a delicious catered lunch from Kelly’s.
This impactful event was made possible by the generous support of our sponsors: Peak Resources, Amivie of the Outer Banks, Outer Banks Health, Visiting Angels, Albemarle Home Care & Hospice, and First Bank.
A special thank you to all the vendors who joined us to share their knowledge and services: Adoration Home Health and Hospice, Albemarle of the Outer Banks, Amivie of the Outer Banks, Dare County Department of Social Services, NC Registry for Brain Health, Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition, Outer Banks Health, Peak Resources, Senior Transitions, Spring Arbor Outer Banks, and Visiting Angels.
