We hope you will join us for our annual fundraiser where we walk a Mile for Memory on Saturday October 4th. We will meet at the Outer Banks Brewing Station at 9:30am and begin walking at 10am. Please register online below or feel free to come early the day of and register in person. We are having a silent auction as well as a t-shirt contest for “why you walk”.

Dementia is one of the most devastating diseases—not only for those living with it, but also for their caregivers. Providing care is a constant responsibility that can lead to stress, burnout, and isolation. The Outer Banks Dementia Friendly Coalition works to reduce stigma and create a community where people with dementia feel safe, respected, and valued.

How we make a difference:

• Dementia-Friendly Training
  We’ve trained over 60 local businesses—including The Outer Banks Hospital, now the first dementia-friendly hospital in the region—to create welcoming, inclusive spaces.

• Caregivers’ Day Out
  Held weekly in Manteo and Nags Head, this respite program supports over 20 participants and gives caregivers time to rest while their loved ones enjoy enriching, engaging activities in a safe environment.

• Educational Support
  We host monthly support groups and a spring caregiver education conference, offering practical tools and strategies to ease communication and reduce frustration.

• Respite Care Funding
  We provide scholarships for respite care so caregivers can take needed breaks. As of July, we’ve awarded $22,000—surpassing our 2025 budget—reflecting the growing demand for this vital support.
